{Guest Post} London Art Studies- “A Spa For the Mind.”

Hi girls. Since I am playing Mini-AG’s personal nurse for the next few days after her tonsil surgery, I am going to let Kate Gordon, of London Art Studies tell you all about her fabulous classes for today’s very cultural post…

I am so excited to be able to tell American Girl readers about London Art Studies which I launched a little over a year ago. Basically, we provide one-day art and jewellery courses – everything you’d like to know about a certain topic, but were afraid to ask! I’ve both taken and given a wide variety of courses over the years – and invariably found myself missing a week or two, here and there due to other commitments. At London Art Studies, each course is designed to last simply for one day – and to be more specific, from 10am through 2:30pm. We also try and make the courses both topical and relevant: to learn a little more about the most exciting exhibitions currently on view in London. It’s great to know why the Lichtenstein exhibition at Tate Modern is currently the hottest ticket in town; it’s also good to know exactly what you’re looking at (and why) when you stop by Sotheby’s or Christie’s (particularly during their Contemporary Sales!!)

London Art Studies can be found 2 days a week at The Berkeley Hotel, in Pierre Koffmann’s private dining room. Each class is limited to 16 people, and you can either come on your own or with a friend. Harvey Nichols is conveniently located right next door; so it really is the perfect location for AG in Chelsea! Each class day includes a fabulous lunch cooked by the Michelin-starred chef Pierre Koffmann, and you can either chat with your friends over lunch – or ask the lecturer as many questions as you wish. All lecturers are chosen not only for their academic qualifications but also for their friendliness; one of the students recently said that her favourite part of the day was the laughter…another student called London Art Studies “a spa for the mind” (which is my own favourite description).

{Entertainment} Singin’ In the Rain

Singin’ in the Rain is celebrating it’s 60th anniversary of the original movie release by playing at the Palace Theatre on Shaftsbury Avenue. I was invited to the attend the show and have to say it was a delightful evening. Whether you’re into vintage couture of the 1940′s or the steps of Sinatra you’ll love the entire experience. It’s also a great show to take the children to!

{Hotels} Waiting for The Wellesley

Right now it’s just a building site, but in a matter of a few short months it’s going to be the coolest boutique hotel in Knightsbridge.

Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of putting on my hard hat and visiting The Wellesley Hotel. Located right next door to The Lanesborough, and across from Hyde Park, you couldn’t ask for a more glamorous location. And that’s exactly what the hotel will feel like, a chic, sophisticated and totally glamorous hideaway.

Here’s a peek of what’s to come…

There will be 27 suites and 9 bedrooms in the 1920′s luxury townhouse. I was able to step inside at Room 101 (pictured above) and get a little teaser of the luxury that the hotel will provide for their guests.

The Wellesley will highlight two things, jazz and cigars. It will house the largest humidor in a London hotel and have a special jazz lounge where you can listen to your favorite tunes while sipping on afternoon tea or a cocktail.

The Jazz Lounge

I am personally very excited about the outdoor cigar terrace, which will be heated during the winter. Because even though it will be freezing, we need to show off our party dress while enjoying our martini’s, right?

The Wellesley is due to open in December. Stay tuned…. I’m sure you’ll see more posts and tweets from when doors open.

{Entertainment} Dukebox Opens It’s Doors to A Glam Chelsea Crowd

Last night was the opening of Dukebox, a seriously hip new nightclub located on Fulham Road. The team behind Dukebox is responsible for some of London’s hottest clubs, including Public where Prince Harry, Pippa Middleton and Katy Perry were frequently spotted.

The champagne was flowing (my head still feels fuzzy), the DJ played the hottest tracks, and the crowd included the young and glamorous, including the Made in Chelsea cast.

The club looks like a New York warehouse but is supposed to have a “grown-up’s playground theme which includes carousel horses, jack-in-the-boxes, and private caves located off the dance floor.

Hitting the dance floor with my gal pals, Julia Kent and Ali Manning. Thanks for snapping Kings Road Rocks

The staff wore sexy versions of 18th century style military coats and carried champagne (complete with sparklers) the party-goers. We munched on marshmallows and popcorn.

Dukebox will be open until 2:30 AM on Thursday through Saturday nights and is located at 266 Fulham Road.

{Fashion Friday} Perfectly Preppy

One of the best parties last night at Fashion’s Night Out was the Rugby Ralph Lauren bash in Covent Garden.

DJ Izzy Lawrence was spinning on the decks and storm models were in the store to show-off the perfectly preppy outfits.

Here is a selection of photos from the “colourama” photo booth.
