One of the absolute highlights of our 12-night Disney Cruise was our tour of Cinque Terre from Diego of Fish and Chill. Both my husband and I had always wanted to visit Cinque Terre and when we found out our boat was docking in Livorno, we decided to skip the museum lines in Florence and head for Montorosso. We booked our transfers from Kiss From Italy who picked us up directly at the ship and transported us to the first of the five towns, Monterosso.
The drive was about two hours, and I am not going to lie, the roads as you get closer into the town are very narrow and windy. It can take even longer to get into Montorosso if you get stuck behind a bicycle or a lorry. We kept the kids entertained on their ipads for the drive, and although I did my fair share of complaining about the drive once we got there it was more than worth it.
We spent some time exploring the town and enjoying an early morning gelato before we walked to the dock and found Diego’s boat. Diego was super welcoming and his boat was perfect for the kids. He offered us water, juice and wine and made sure that the kids were settled in before heading off and giving us the most amazing tour of the region.
At each town along the way he would give us fun facts about the area and the people that live there. To say that the views were breathtaking is an absolute understatement. After about 45 minutes we arrived at a waterfall and Diego said it was time for a swim. He had floaties and noodles for the kids, and scuba goggles for the adults. We all jumped in the sea and swam over to the waterfall where Mini AG and I collected shells. Diego took the inative to take some amazing photos from the boat while we were swimming and when we got back to the boat he had the most delicious lunch set out for us.
The lunch, prepared by his “Mama” was fresh foccacia bread, local cheeses, fresh pasta, nuts, olives and other snacks which we devoured immediately. After lunch there was more wine, and it was time for all of us to lay down on the front of the boat and enjoy the journey back to Monterosso.
“This is the best day ever!” said mini AB. “Yeah, my favourite!” said Mini AG as we sailed back to town. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better Diego handed us some homemade limoncello, which was perfect because it meant that we fell asleep the entire way back to the Disney Magic.
If you’re thinking about visiting Cinque Terre or the surround area, there is no question that you should reach out to Diego and book one of his incredible tours. It was a day that me and my family will certainly never forget.
