I have been wanting to try The Beaumont for lunch for a long time and a few Saturdays my dream came true. The Beaumont Hotel is located just off Oxford Street, but you’d never know it was so close to the crowds. The Colony Grill Room, the main restaurant in the hotel which is open to non-hotel guests, is the brainchild of Chris Corbin and Jeremy King (behind Colbert and The Wolseley), so we knew it had to be good.
We walked in and were immediately welcomed by the staff. The “American Bar” and art-deco restaurant is cozy yet sophisticated. There are giant murals on the walls depicting different areas within the U.S and sporting themes attached, i.e. skiing in Tahoe, Polo in Santa Barbara, I immediately felt at home. And then we opened up the menus..
“American Sandwiches!!!!” my Husband said. “I’m getting the Reuben!” I’ve never seen him so happy over a sandwich in my life. Then I spotted the chopped club salad and I was almost as elated as he was. The salad was incredible, and my husband wished that the restaurant was closer to our home because of that reuben situation… we were on cloud 9, and really full, and then the waitress brought over the dessert menu, which included the bespoke sundae making sheet. That’s when I fell in love.
One scoop vanilla (for me), one scoop hazelnut (for him), lots of chocolate flakes (me) and peanut butter brittle (whoops, me again) and we created the perfect, at least in my humble opinion, sundae on earth.
I really can’t tell you what I liked better the ambiance or the food. Strike that. It’s the food, I want to Quiqup a club salad and sundae right now. The Colony Grill Room is a new favorite for sure. Go make a reservation now.
