If you’ve been following me on social media lately you know that I am currently in California. Our spring break began with a beautiful family wedding in Los Angeles and celebrating the kid’s birthdays at Universal Studios and the El Capitan theatre in Hollywood. After two wonderful LA weeks is was time to head further south.
Having gone to college at USC I have a ton of friends who live down in Orange County and I try to make an effort to get down there when I can. I especially wanted to visit the girls living in Newport Beach as they had told me about a yacht charter they were thinking about taking from https://onboat.co/newport-beach-yacht-charter/! The girls had always talked a lot about Newport Beach and its sophisticated charm. The stories they narrate from sunset cruises to surf lessons and harbor-front promenades, always made me want to visit them again. But, coming back to the travel plans, I also had few friends who were living in Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach, so I needed to make sure I found a child-friendly hotel that we could stay at while we bopped along the OC coastline. I quickly realized that there was a lot to pack into this trip but I was determined to make it happen. After much searching, I decided to stay at the Surf and Sand in Laguna Beach as I had stayed there before and knew this was the perfect place to be for a few days of catching up with old friends.
The great thing about the Surf and Sand Resort is that it is directly, and I mean DIRECTLY on the water. Our beautiful room (which was perfectly large enough to hold me and all of the toys and gear that come with my two kids) had a balcony overlooking the ocean. Every morning Mini-AG would wake me up to watch dolphins swimming directly outside our room. Every evening I enjoyed the splashing of waves with a glass of wine while the children slept. It was heaven.
The Surf and Sand Resort was a perfect base to have all of my OC friends pop by for a visit too. The kids loved the pool, and the direct beach access meant that they could swim and run in the surf for hours. The restaurant, Splashes, also has gorgeous seaside views and offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There’s also a beautiful outdoor terrace where you can enjoy coffee and treats from the hotel coffee shop in the morning (or a bloody mary), and cocktails in the evening.
It was a perfect escape for me and the kids and we will definitely be back to explore more of the OC!
