American Girl in Chelsea

A chic guide for American women who have relocated to London, England.

St Tropez Sparkle!

June 21, 2010 | 4 Comments

Hey AG’s! Hubby, Mini and I just got back from an absolutely fantastic weekend in St Tropez. If you haven’t been yet- you must must go! One of my best girlfriends, who is super fabulous herself, married a very famous French photog, and the wedding was superb- we’re talking world-famous DJ’s spinning on the beach at the incredible Nioulargo restaurant, which was lit by hundreds of candles, and covered in thousands of roses and hydrangeas. We even had hair and make-up done by the stylists that do the runway shows for Christian Dior. I was pretty much in heaven the whole weekend!

So, here are my travel tips for those of you who haven’t been to this locale:

How to get there: Fly to Nice, and drive! The flight is under two hours, and the drive without traffic is about an hour and a half. You can also take the Eurostar to Paris and then another train to St Tropez, if you want to stop and do some shopping first in the capital.

Where to stay: I have stayed at the Château de la Messardière before (where bride and family was), and it truly is exquisite. It is located about a 5 minute drive up the hill from the town which is both good and bad. It’s great because you have a lovely view of the ocean and rolling hills, it’s bad because you have to wait for a shuttle to go to and from everything. This time, we stayed at the Hotel Des Lices, which was nice because it was in the center of town- and we could walk to the port and be in the heart of the action right outside our door. It also had a very relaxing pool scene and is perfect for kids.

Where to eat: Go to Alain Ducasse’s “Spoon” at the Byblos Hotel. I had the most incredible sea bass with artichokes three ways. It was so yum! (Byblos also looks like another great place to stay, very chic and in the center of town, I’ve never stayed there but I have heard great things!) If you’re looking for some entertainment with your dinner check out Villa Romana. With a fashion show taking place during dinner, its an incredible experience!

What to do: Relax by your pool, check out the yachts in the harbor, shop shop shop, and order a “piscine” (or 3), which is the St Tropez summer drink (champagne and ice!)

Ok girls, let me know if you’ve been, and if you’ve got any other tips to share. I’m going to go unpack!

Hi K, You'll need to go to the embassy and change social security and your passport. Check out this link: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/acs/passports/namechange.html

I would recommend making an appointment before you go- makes the process a lot easier!

After that, you usually have to write a letter (and send a copy of your marriage certificate) to your banks, credit card companies, etc.

    Cheers, AG

I love St. Tropez in the summer! I would suggest going during the start of the Rolex Cup!
