Andy Warhol’s famous portrait of Marilyn Monroe made entirely out of pennies.
Featured Artist:
Joanna Ladowska has an extensive skill and passion for graphite artwork, drawing several famous celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe and Scarlett Johansson. Her intricate and detailed drawing could almost be mistaken for a photograph, such is the depth and quality of the work. Born in Lublin, Poland, from an early age, the young Ladowska concealed many of her works from her parents. Instead, many early works were published in children’s magazines. Although introduced to the worlds of graphics, design, analogue and digital photography, Ladowska’s passion remained in the medium of pencil, particularly the human face. Her technique of pencilled graphite work which is applied to canvas in stunning detail and proportionality is unique. Having received much acclaim in the critical art press, Ladowska recently won the People’s Choice Art Award for 2011.
