I’m still loving my British Smart Meter, and now having it installed in our home is even more helpful with the our Smart Energy Report. When you sign up for your British Smart Meter you receive a special report which shows you your past hourly, daily, weekly or month energy and what it exactly cost you, a breakdown of what you’re spending on things like heating, hot water, cooking, lighting and appliances, insights and personalized tips on how you can save money, and how your house compares to similar households, be they ones using solar energy (more here about that) or otherwise. It helps you put your energy use into perspective so you can adjust to your needs better.
Once you sign up for an online account, you can receive your personalized reports by email, and your online report will always be available for you to view when you want to.
Our Smart Energy Report has caused our family to make these specific changes, (1) turn off all of the lights during the evening or when no one is at home, (2) not charge our cell phones over night, all night, just charge as much as they need to, (3) only boil water on the kettle when we are actually cooking, not when we are “thinking” about making a cup of tea, (4) and only doing a full load of laundry.
Our Special Energy Report has definitely tapped us in to what we spend on our Gas and Energy bills, and encourages us to use them smarter.
