American Girl in Chelsea

A chic guide for American women who have relocated to London, England.

{Mummy & Me} This is Why You Should Book in at Mermaid Maternity…

January 29, 2014 | Leave a Comment

I have quite a few friends who are preggers right now (NO, not me!) and so I wanted to swoop back to Mermaid Maternity on Kings Road to see how things were going after their big launch. I met Marina Folgle, of The Bump Class, and she took me through all that Mermaid has to offer. To be honest with you girls, when Mermaid first opened, I thought “Why not stay a few extra nights in hospital?!” Well, I’ll tell you why…

You can get REAL Rest…zzz…zzz…

If you have had a baby before you know that when you stay in the hospital the nurses are in and out of your room all night long checking your blood pressure, etc. At Mermaid you can get good, solid, continuous sleep while your baby is looked after. This means you’re getting ACTUAL rest. Because YOU NEED IT. It also means that you have more control over visitors who will interrupt that rest. If you don’t want those pesky relatives hanging about, Mermaid is the perfect place to hide post-birth.

It’s Actually Cheaper Than A Private Hospital

A stay at Mermaid starts at £595 a night and includes a pick-up at the hospital, ALL of your meals, baby feeding, full-maternity support, physiotherapy and full use of the baby zone (which is staffed 24 hours), and daily visits from a midwife to answer all of your questions. Compare that to £885 for an extra night at The Kensington Wing, no meals or extras included.  (And don’t get me wrong I LOVE The Kensington Wing and everyone that can do so, should consider having their baby there. But if you’re able to leave hospital- go!) Mermaid is also currently running a special where you can stay for three nights for £1,000. Read more about what’s included in the Mermaid packages, here.

Mermaid will be there for an entire 6 Months!

This is the part that I really loved hearing about. If you book-in with Mermaid, the buck doesn’t stop a few weeks after the baby is born. Mermaid is there to help all the way up until your Mini is 6 months old. THAT MEANS that when Husband is off on a business trip or is called back to work early (this happened to me, ummm, what paternity leave?!) then you can book in at Mermaid to rest and recoup even if it’s a few months down the line. Parents or in-laws coming to visit your babe when he or she is 2 months old? Let them have your house and book in at Mermaid. There is no reason you should be making anyone tea as an exhausted brand new mom…. and… now I am ranting…

Furthermore, if you need to see a physio, reflexologist, acupuncturist, or one of the many other wellness practitioners that work at Mermaid, and even if you’re not a guest of the Retreat at the time, they will watch your baby! Yes, that means, you get free babysitting while you are having your tired and sore body pampered a bit. Mermaid also offers exercise classes (including barrecore) and beauty treatments by QMS Medicosmetics…and yes, they will watch your babe for those too.
