You girls know me by now, and you know that I really don’t do the negative review thing (even though some of you have asked for more of them…) But, when someone tries to do Mexican food in London I feel, as a Southern California native, that I must respond.
Last night we went to Peyote in Mayfair. There’s been a definite buzz about the new restaurant and even though one of my girlfriends said it wasn’t that great, I had to try for myself. After all, nothing makes me happier than a good margarita and some guacamole.
Look, I am not saying that Peyote doesn’t have a hip scene and the interior decor is definitely fun, but the food is just… well, bad. The cocktails were too sweet, the tortilla chips tasted stale, and the mini tacos were just bland. We also had the strangest side of corn that was so covered in cheese that it looked like my daughters’s macaroni and cheese dinner. Strange.
On a brighter note, our server was completely lovely, and the hostess was very sweet on squeezing us in for a last minute reservation.
Sorry to burst anyone’s bubble on this one, but I would skip it….
try it once , did not like the cocktail neither.
