When I first heard that you could eat Lobster in Mayfair for £20 I was intrigued. And then I heard the restaurant, Burger & Lobster, didn’t take reservations, and that you would likely be waiting hours for a table, and my interest diminished. BUT, on Friday night I was convinced we should give it a try.
We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday night and we were prepared to wait. The nice thing is that you place your name and phone number on a waiting list and the restaurant will call you when your table is almost ready, so you don’t have to stand around waiting on the street (when it’s busy you aren’t even let in to wait at their bar.) So, after placing our names not the list we headed over to Mortons in Berkeley Square for a pre-dinner tipple,
And then we waited, and waited…. and waited….
OVER 2 Hours.
If it wasn’t for the fantastic company I would have been annoyed. When we finally got the call, we were let into the restaurant only to wait again standing at the bar for another half hour. And then we finally sat down..
There’s no menu at Burger & Lobster, you get two things- SURPRISE, a burger or a lobster (either whole or on a brioche) – both with salad and fries.
Don’t get me wrong, we had a lovely evening. Two and a half hours of cocktailing on an empty stomach before a meal would make any dinner a jolly ol’ time, but I didn’t think that the food was worth all of the fuss, although it is a great value for £££.
Burger & Lobster now has a SOHO location so perhaps that will divert a few patrons, although according to friends it’s equally as busy.
Verdict? Probably not going back, but if you are a hardcore lobster lover it’s a great deal.

You can usually sit fit down straight away at the bar and have the same food. Not ideal if there are a few in your party, but great if it is just 2 of you.
