Last year when I had one of my American Girl events I met the lovely Katherine Stern and I remember thinking how lovely she was. Well, a few weeks ago Katherine got in touch with me and asked me if she could please drop off a cake for me to sample. I never say no to this type of blog research (diet or no diet) so I said “Of course!” She then delivered the most delicious Raspberry Spice cake with a Vanilla Bean Meringue Buttercream frosting and I have to tell you girls, it was amazing.

Katherine creates vintage style cakes, which means you really are enjoying something special. For example, while Katherine offers traditional buttercream frosting (basically icing sugar and butter) she also offers and recommends Meringue Buttercreams. Meringue buttercreams begin as a traditional Italian meringue. Egg whites and sugar are tempered to 60°C (140°F) then whipped for upwards of 20min into stiff peaks. This is the base for Katherine’s frostings – nothing comes in a box! Her recipes are the the definition of sophisticated American treats, but she has also perfected a few European classics, which promise not to disappoint those of you that yearn for French patisserie.
Every item is made to order by hand with fresh seasonal ingredients, and Katherine loves to receive special orders. If there’s something you don’t see on the La Petite Américaine website, just contact Katherine and she’ll whip up whatever you request.
