American Girl in Chelsea

A chic guide for American women who have relocated to London, England.

Cocktails at Blake’s and Tapas at Tendito Cero= Date Night Perfection.

July 13, 2011 | 1 Comment

On Friday night Hubby and I opted for an impromptu date night to celebrate my new weekly column at The Notebook, and Hubby’s new job. We began with cocktails at Blake’s Hotel in South Kensington. I haven’t been to Blake’s in quite some time, but it was so nice to go back. The downstairs Chinese Room and Bar is such a unique and relaxing place to grab a post work cocktail.

I love Blakes’s because its off the beaten track of the main roads in South Kensington, and is just so peaceful. The Oriental decor is stunning and creates a warm and calm atmosphere. I had “The Rolling Rock” cocktail with Citrus Vodka, Elderflower, Lemon Juice, and Champagne, which was the perfect summer’s eve cocktail. The one thing I have to say is the service was a little slow.

After Blake’s we realized that we hadn’t made dinner reservations anywhere, but we had been dying to try Tendido Cero on Old Brompton Road. I have been hearing friends talk about this place (it’s even been written up in the NY Times) for AGES and I adore tapas so I was excited to see if we could sneak a table. Of course they were fully booked, and we were offered one of their two neighboring restaurants across the street Cambio De Tercio (Spanish cuisine with great reviews), or Capote y Toros (Ham and Sherry bar) but being the stubborn girl I am, I wanted to try the original, so we opted for a open table outside, and I am so glad that we did!

The food was phenomenal, the service was outstanding, and the wine was amazing. Here’s a little of what we indulged in….

RIBERA DEL DUERO

P AGO DE CARRAOVEJAS CR. 2007

Raw tuna tartar with avocado ali-oli sauce

Padron peppers

Serrano ham croquettes

“The new” spicy Patatas Bravas
This was our fav!

Crispy squid
Spicy chorizo cooked in Spanish cider

Cheesecake
Overall it was the perfect celebratory date night!
Hope you have a chance to try both Blake’s and Tendio Cero very soon!
