I’ve had a long love affair with The Beverly Hills Hotel. When I was still living in L.A I used to go to the polo lounge with girlfriends and celeb spot till the wee hours of the morning. When I was in college our best formal was in the hotel ballroom and ended up being one of the best nights on record.
When we booked our trip to go “home” for Christmas I thought it would be nice to let the kids stay in a hotel for a few nights. That way when they woke up at 5AM jet-lagged at least we could order room service and even go for a swim. I was a bit hesitant about making a hotel room as homey as Christmas would be in our house so I reached out to the hotel before-hand and asked them if they would be able to put a tree in the room. I was able to pick from several different sizes and when we arrived on the 24th of December it was there waiting for us, beautiful decorated and lit up, ready for Santa’s late night arrival.
Let me just say, The Beverly Hills Hotel knows how to do Christmas. Santa himself was walking around the lobby chatting with guests, and he even talked to my two kids and completely convinced them that he knew exactly what they had asked him for. There was a photographer on-hand to document the encounter and our photos were later printed out and given to us to take home.
While it wasn’t the warmest of Christmas Eve’s the kids were delighted by the idea of spending the afternoon by the pool, there was even Christmas carols being played under the water! After lunch and cocktails by the pool we all cleaned up for a family dinner at Polo Lounge. The pianist was on-hand to take Christmas requests from the children and the hotel brought special treats to our table for the kids. The meal was delicious and the atmosphere was so special.
After setting up the Christmas morning presents in our hotel room we all had an early night and woke up (yes, 5 AM) bright and early to see if Santa found us at the pink palace. The children were delighted to find all of their toys under the beautiful christmas tree. After opening our gifts we ordered chocolate chip pancakes (for the kids) and huevos rancheros (for the big kids). Room service came with Christmas stockings for the children and after another round of opening presents it was time to meet up with the entire family. The hotel car was able to take us to our big family lunch meaning getting to and from places on Christmas day was seamless.
We spend the rest of the afternoon resting by the pool and talking about how a magical two days we had had. Even though LA still feels like home, this Christmas felt like a true vacation at home which was so lovely.
If you’re spending anytime in LA, Christmas or not, I would definitely consider booking in for a night (or three) at The Beverly Hills Hotel. You really just can’t go wrong with the food, service, accommodation, and experience.
