When I first had Mini-AG, I really thought I could do it all on my own (and three-cheers for those of you that can!) but about six weeks in I broke down from lack of sleep and knew I needed to recharge my mummy batteries in order to get through the days.
A girlfriend of mine (that I met through NCT) recommended Night Nannies. I had heard about them in the past but was very skeptical of bringing in someone to watch my precious Mini-AG, but I called anyways to see what they were all about.
I spoke with a lovely lady who recommended I have someone come a couple days a week to start off, just so I could get some rest. Still skeptical, I was put at ease when the company emailed me about twenty-five references of my night nanny, Liz. These were detailed descriptions of how Liz interacted with different babies, how long she had worked with each couple, and included phone numbers so I could call and speak with other mums about her. After reading through all of the references and chatting with some women, I decided to check her out.
O-M-G! What a life-saver! In the first month or so while I was breastfeeding, Liz would take Mini-AG all through the evening (from 9PM-7AM) and just bring her to me when she needed a feed. I would wake up much more rested from not having to change, burp, and wind the little one.
Further on now, I still have Liz come as we are trying to get Mini on a schedule (and bottle-feeding), which is extremely helpful. Besides getting a full night’s rest when she comes, one of my favorite parts about having Liz is that when I wake up, all of my bottles and feeding equipment are washed, sterilized, and ready to go!
So, for whatever stage of baby-land you are in, if you are feeling a bit knackered or completely unable to cope, go ahead and give them a call. I swear, having those extra hours of sleep makes all the difference in the world!
