There’s something about the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal that always makes me smile. I love that in a country divided politically, almost all of Londoners come together from mid-October to mid-November to support the troops by wearing that iconic poppy on their lapel.
This year, jewelry designer Kleshna capitalized on making the poppy a little more durable, and a lot more fashionable.
These pieces debuted on the contestants of the X-factor, and ever since have been sold out on the Royal British Legion’s website. You can, however, still get a select few on the Kleshna website.
The upside, your poppy will last through the years and looks pretty too. The downside, at around £40.00 for the broach, only 10 percent of proceeds go to the Royal British Legion, which when you have to buy at least 5 per year of the paper variety, isn’t that much.
I am usually in London for a week or so in late October, early November and the first thing I do is get my poppy at Heathrow. It's really nice to be a part of something very different plus I always get lots of questions when I return home. Alas, I am home this year, but I did get one in Winsor, Ontario the other day. I will be wearing my flag on Friday for Veteren's Day but the poppy is just a bit more fashionable.
Love this post.
Also noticed the wide variety of 'funked up' poppies this year.
Respect the effort but really, less is often more.

Big improvement and very needed facelift. Three cheers!
