If you’re a regular reader here at AG, you know that I love Julia Boggio Photography. Up until a few weeks ago I have used her fantastic camera skills to do family photo-shoots and our Christmas cards photos. Every time that I went into her studio in Wimbledon to review our photos, I couldn’t help but rave over all of the amazing vintage boudoir shoots that Julia has done. They aren’t as risque as some of the photography sites you’ll see reviewed on x3guide, yet they are still alluring and sexy in equal measure. I always said that I wanted to do one. Well, it took a while to actually get me in the studio, but when I did, the entire experience was an absolute blast.
We started with hair and make-up by Kaz Fernando. Kaz immediately knew the type of look we were after, and after about an hour and a half, I feel like I was literally transformed into a 1950’s pin-up model. The champagne cork then popped and we put Katie Perry on blast so the photo-shoot could commence.
As I said, I’ve worked with Julia a number of times before, but it was always for the kids. She is a brilliant family photographer, but her creativeness with these for-women-only photos-hoots is just outstanding. She is the only person in London that does this type of photography of this caliber. She knows exactly how to ask you to pose, and will put you in a million different costumes, settings, and create completely different looks all within a span of a few hours. Her expertise in this area led to her creating “Home By Midnight” just for us girls.
Julia offers several types of boudoir-type photography, including pin-up, superhero, and even Antoinette boudoir! She also does couture portraits, which is so fun if you haven’t had your photo properly taken in a while. If you want to combine all of the different types of creative portrait styles that Julia has to offer, like I did, then she offers “The Cinderella Shoot” which includes three different photo styles. As you can see, I did the pin-up boudoir, couture photos, and a little Superhero action for fun. A Cinderella Shoot Experience is £450 for one person or £700 if you want to do it with a friend. The shoot cost includes hair, make-up and your time with the photographer.
After your shoot, you book in a slot to come back to her studio and look at your best photos. All of your photos are placed on a big TV screen and set to music. You then take the time to choose your very favorites, and can order amazing canvases, photo blocks, books- you name it! It is often said that Boudoir photography can help boost your self-confidence and that it can also help you appreciate your body more. On a similar note, this type of intimate photography can be seen as a movement of body positivity for individuals.
I had such a fun time doing this photo-shoot (have I said that enough yet?!). At first, I thought it was a bit crazy to be spending time and money on photos of just myself, and not the kids, but honestly, it was so worth it. Note to fellow-moms- book this photo-shoot! You’ll feel so confident and great afterwards, I promise! With the holidays coming, it’s also a great opportunity to make photo gifts for your other half or parents! OR, give the gift of the photoshoot to your best girlfriend, mom, daughter, you name it!
I’ll be back in Julia’s studio to do our Christmas cards in a few weeks, but I will never forget this Home by Midnight shoot, and I am so glad I finally did it!
