If you happen to be following my instagram as of late, you’ll know that I’ve spent a considerable amount of time at Tanya’s Cafe. Well, last night was the press supper club and so now I am fully prepared to let you girls in on the one of my absolute new favorite places.
A friend of mine stumbled across Tanya’s one day walking through Chelsea. She called me immediately and said we need to go for the “medicinal mushroom lattes.” I thought she had lost her marbles. Turns out, mushrooms can actually be super healthy for you! It was only after I tried the treats at Tanya’s Cafe that I found out about the whole host of medicinal mushroom benefits as well as other nutrition-rich green foods. It’s like I was living under a rock all this while. Anyway, always a fan of healthy treats, we met up at Tanya’s Cafe located in the My Hotel. I had a cup of yummy coffee, with almond milk, and then came the sweets. The peanut butter and chocolate truffle was out of this world delicious. “They’re like… HEALTHY!” my friend shrieked. I needed to know more ASAP.
That’s when the adorable pint-sized Tanya popped over. More likely that not, if you visit, you’ll get a chance to speak to her because she is pretty much always there making sure all of her customers are happy with her recipes. Tanya sat down and started talking to us about when her love of raw food started.
At the age of fourteen a near-fatal car crash left Tanya with a broken back and badly bruised and damaged pancreas. Going against medical advise to remove this vital organ, her parents chose a holistic path to save what traditional medicine couldn’t. During this time the only foods Tanya’s body didn’t reject were peppermint tea with Manuka honey and freshly made vegetable juice. When Tanya graduated from university she started to hear about ‘raw food’ and ‘green juice’ being used for holistic healing. She realized that her body had wanted and needed to heal and had only accepted freshly made juices because it intuitively knew about the power of living, enzyme rich, restorative properties of fruit and vegetables. This realization became the catalyst for her career when Tanya and her husband moved to the UK.
Although her cafe has only been open around 7 weeks, there is already a huge demand for Tanya’s delicious cold-pressed juices, raw food, and delicious raw sweets. Sometimes I even dream about her chocolate. Wait there’s more… Tanya turns her cafe into a bar in the evenings where she has created superfood cocktails with her juices, natural sweeteners, and I think, a little bit of magic. We had a sampling of them last night, and trust me they are amazing. And, because they are the most healthy way to consume alcohol, you won’t feel terrible the next day. It’s the only one of it’s kind in Europe, and you need to try it now!
Tanya’s is open for breakfast, lunch, ‘after four’ cocktails and platters or all day cold-pressed juices and raw chocolates. Breakfast is served until 11:30am and lunch is served until 3:00pm daily. Tanya’s organic vegan wines are available all day.
