Back in December, one of my closest girlfriends threw me the most amazing birthday luncheon. To say “THANKS!” I planned a spa day for her and some other girlfriends at the Akasha spa at the Cafe Royal Hotel. Let me start off by saying, I had one of the BEST massages of my entire life here. If you go, ask for Lauren, she is honestly amazing, and I promise you’ll enjoy every second.

The facilities at Akasha are fab. There are loungers surrounding the giant pool, making it the perfect place to grab a pre or post treatment glass of champagne. Make sure you bring your swimsuits as the pool, steam rooms, and sauna are all co-ed. I don’t know about you girls, but I ALWAYS forget to bring my bathing suit to the spa, always just assuming that it will be girls-only. WHOOPS. So, I couldn’t use any of the facilities, but after my massage I literally just wanted to veg out on one of the lounge chairs anyways.

A tip about the locker rooms, the lockers are all quite small, so make sure you don’t have a ton of things with you as it was a little hard to shove everything in them.

After our amazing treatments, we had lunch. Now this, I felt, was a little awkward, because the only place you are allowed to eat is right by reception, making it feel a little less spa-like then if you’re actually inside where the facilities are. There are some great healthy options on the menu, I had the quinoa with veggies and another friend had avocado on gluten-free toast. Although we really enjoyed the lunch, the restaurant upstairs is a little more happening, and so if you can’t eat IN the actual spa, I think I would change next time and go upstairs.

All in all, it was a great afternoon because my treatment was AMAZING. I will definitely be going back to another massage as soon as I can.
